New Penryn Macbook Pro Arrived

It looks like it's about time to put my old Macbook Pro to sleep. I received my new 2.4GHz/2GB Penryn based Macbook Pro this morning and I'm loving it. My old Macbook Pro was still sufficient for day to day use, but the uneven CCFL backlighting and RAM limitation were enough to persuade me to make the switch. I've already got a 4GB set of Crucial memory in the mail that should arrive tomorrow. Also, the LED backlighting is glorious and the 200GB of space should be a good amount for me. My old machine had a matte display, and that was one of the toughest choices that I had to make. I ended up choosing glossy, we'll see how that works out. Overall, all of the points I mentioned, plus the added fun of multitouch, makes me a very happy consumer.

That looks cool. I have been holding on for a while to buy my first Mac product, may be it's time to buy now. Although looking at some of the reviews there does not seem be a significant performance boost in this macbook/pro series. Being a first time Mac buyer I can use some advise. Did you buy it from Apple store/MacMall or somewhere else? I work for a big corporation and we do have corporate discounts from Apple. How about warranty , did u get that? I am planning to install XP also. What will u recommend Parallels, boot camp?

Oh, you should definitely go for it. You will become hooked. Ended up getting mine online. I had Apple Care for my old laptop and I will definitely get it again for my new one. One word of advice, buy Apple Care from Amazon -- it's $70 cheaper. Also, I highly recommend VMWare Fusion over Parallels -- much less memory intensive.

You chose Glossy huh.. Im trying to make that decision as well. Im afraid the glare would bother me, but I absolutely love the colors on glossy. Im not sure what to do! Anything you are having problems with glossy, or wishing you had a matte screen instead? I would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Hey Lindsay, I bet you're excited to get your Macbook Pro! I used to have a matte screen, but I had a thing for my friend's glossy, so I went for it. There's honestly not much glare at all, and with the right color profile, I don't think it makes that much of a difference. The glossy appears to be a little sharper and pop out w/ a little more contrast out of the box. Also, I wouldn't mind you adding me to your blogroll :) Thank you!
